Shadow and Bone Netflix Review

This show dropping on a Friday when just about everyone who is still in school had to actually do work was really cruel. Instead of actually getting sleep, I stayed up until 2 am finishing the season and now I have no idea what to do with my life. I planned on writing an excellent review for the series, but to be honest, all of the episodes have sort of blurred together at this point, so we shall see how this goes.

Episode 1 gripped me tight and never let me go. The way the Fold looks is incredible. It's like they took what was in my mind while reading and put it on screen, which is incredible considering just how many people have read this book. I also may or may not be a Malina shipper now. I did not like Mal's character in the book and I thought Alina should have ended up alone, but Archie Renaux's acting was amazing. Julian Kostov deserves an award for his acting. I fell in love with his portrayal of Feydor! I screamed when I saw the Darkling for the first time, too. And when I saw the crows.

The story line follows Shadow and Bone, the first book in the Grisha trilogy. The show was not entirely accurate, especially since they added a sort of prequel story for Six of Crows, but I liked it nonetheless. I actually enjoyed it more with the crows involved. There were several characters in the show that I loved that I didn't love in the books. I can tell that the actors and the producers really used the series to their advantage.

The costumes and setting were the best! I have never seen Game of Thrones, but people are saying that the budget for Shadow and Bone looked to be similar to that show. Obviously they had a lot of money to use, because everything was spot on! Again, it's almost like they reached into my mind and put it onto a screen. The keftas were phenomenal. I think I read somewhere that all of the keftas were hand embroidered, which is so cool! I also read that Inej had 14 different knives on her! Wendy Partridge (the costume designer) did an amazing job. When I first saw the crows in Kerch, I was blown away by the accuracy of both the costumes and the setting. I really wish the Crow Club was a place now.

Overall, the show did an amazing job. There were some obvious differences (*ahem* Just a million kruge??? ifykyk) and some things I wished were changed, but I still think this is a great show! If you love the Grishaverse, definitely watch this show! If it wasn't for you, maybe still try watching! Just bear in mind that there are many things that were changed. Even if you haven't read any of the Grishaverse books, you could still watch this (but I highly recommend reading the books first).

Netflix, I am waiting for the season 2 announcement!
