Nannerl and Wolfgang. Two children. Two prodigies. But the world only remembers one Mozart. Nannerl has a gift with music and a wish; to be remembered. However, she is a young woman in the 18th century. Once she becomes an adult, she will no longer be extraordinary, and her compositions will be rejected by the world. Wolfgang has a chance that she does not. He can publish his music and go down in history. As Nannerl's hope grows dimmer as she gets older and her brother only seems to shine brighter, she will have to make a difficult decision. Will she risk Wolfgang's life to be remembered? Or will her brother's love be enough to fulfill her dreams?

I never even knew that there were two Mozart children until I picked up this book. Marie Lu perfectly describes the desires of a young girl living in a world that is designed to take everything from her. I understood Nannerl's desires and her struggles. This book was incredibly heartbreaking for me for that reason. Everything made sense to me. The world-building in the Kingdom of Back was amazing. I loved that the Mozart children had a role to play in the creation of the world, yet the way the story played out was not how they expected.
