Review: Shielded by KayLynn Flanders

The kingdom of Hálendi is in trouble. It's losing the war at its borders, and rumors of a new, deadlier threat on the horizon have surfaced. Princess Jennesara knows her skills on the battlefield would make her an asset and wants to help, but her father has other plans.

As the second-born heir to the throne, Jenna lacks the firstborn's—her brother's—magical abilities, so the king promises her hand in marriage to the prince of neighboring Turia in exchange for resources Hálendi needs. Jenna must leave behind everything she has ever known if she is to give her people a chance at peace.

Only, on the journey to reach her betrothed and new home, the royal caravan is ambushed, and Jenna realizes the rumors were wrong—the new threat is worse than anyone imagined. Now Jenna must decide if revealing a dangerous secret is worth the cost before it's too late—for her and for her entire kingdom.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is a new favorite! I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. I originally won a signed copy of this book from a giveaway (thank you KayLynn Flanders!) and it sat on my shelf for a few weeks before I picked it up. Man, was I missing out on a lot!

Jenna is such an interesting character to read about. She is extremely driven and cares deeply about the people she loves. I really wish we could have seen more from Enzo's point of view (if you want to read a chapter from his POV, go to KayLynn Flander's website!). Even from what I gathered from the bonus chapter and from what he does in the book, he seems like a really well rounded character. I also loved Mari and Chaira! They both have such an amazing bond and I really related to both of them. Plus, they are both super cute!

As a part of the giveaway, I got some post cards with the places on them. Let me just say, the setting is magical with or without the added visuals! I feel like many books that have traveling don't discuss what the cultural differences, but KayLynn does an amazing job at describing the differences that Jenna sees.

The plot of the story sucks you in and never lets you go. From about 4 chapters in to the rest of the story, I never wanted to put the book down! There is always something going on. I was up until 3 am reading this book one night because I just had to know what happened! Every part of this story is incredible!

In case you weren't already sold on this book, let me tell you that it has a one bed scene, a hidden betrothal, and an amazing female lead! Need I say more? I highly recommend that everyone who loves fantasy picks up this book!
