Review: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

When Jude was just 7 years old, she watched her parents be murdered by her new foster dad. Madoc took her and her sisters to the High Court of Faerie, where mortal humans are only thought of as servants meant to be controlled. Even 10 years later, Jude still longs to belong in the High Courts, despite what they think of creatures like her. And Prince Cardan is the worst of them. To win a place at Court, and to truly belong, she must find a way to best him in every way. As Jude works harder, she finds her skill in spy work and deception. But as treason and betrayal threaten the Court, Jude must find a way to save her home and everyone she loves, even if that means risking her own life.

The Cruel Prince: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Wicked King: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Queen of Nothing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall series rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a series that gets better as you go on. The first book rubbed me in the wrong way, but I can't really explain why. I was promised enemies-to-lovers, which is what I got, so that was fun. The only way I can describe this series is Red Queen meets A Court of Thorns and Roses. Cardan starts off as a jerk. You have been warned. And Jude really does give me Mare Barrow energy. I loved how the plot progressed through the books. The Queen of Nothing seemed to have lots of problems to be fixed, which got a little confusing but made sense the more I read. I recommend this series if you like faeries and enemies-to-lovers stuff, or if you are looking to start reading fantasy novels.
